As the decision for the animation is a transforming post box that is able to accommodate parcels and package them suitably, the storyboard instinctively feels as though it should be a step by step of that process. To begin with an idea of how this would look, it was useful to obtain some imagery of a typical post box in England as a good reference. With the earlier knowledge of industrial design the initial approach was to try and encompass that feeling in the initial draft of the story board. The decision was to follow the item’s journey through the post box, it begins appearing mostly as a normal post box with a few alterations, once the parcel mode has been activated the audience will see the letter box open to reveal a platform to place the item upon. Once received it will drop to a lower compartment that will open a door and reveal the item in question as it is beginning its packaging journey, it moves down the conveyor belt towards the next part of the journey where it will be boxed up as the safety panel comes down to avoid any unfortunate accidents, before finally moving to the labelling section where the package is finalised and the post box begins to collapse back into itself and proceed with posting the parcel. To achieve this feeling and theme of metamorphosis the goal will be to design a model that feels natural in itself and its transformation. The final view of that will be based on how well this is achieved, to aid this a safer approach in the design should be utilised minimising complexities in the path will help alleviate any disruption in suspending the disbelief within the audience’s viewpoint. A higher quality version of the storyboard was done to help give more visualisation to the final piece and how the design process may develop. Doing this also gave a more clear identity to the story and flow of the animation, by being able to lay each piece out individually and work out where each scene should naturally move to and follow on from.
